Data and Methodology

Dataset
NHANES
Survey years
2017–2020
Sample size
380 participants
Reference population
US civilian non-institutionalized males from NHANES 2017–March 2020 pre-pandemic, excluding participants with WBC >10.0 × 10⁹/L, CRP >5.0 mg/L, ALT or AST >70 IU/L, ferritin >200 µg/L (iron overload risk), or missing ferritin or hemoglobin values.
Exclusion criteria
  • WBC >10.0 × 10⁹/L (infection marker)
  • CRP >5.0 mg/L (inflammation marker)
  • ALT or AST >70 IU/L (liver disease marker)
  • Ferritin >200 µg/L (iron overload risk)
  • Missing ferritin or hemoglobin values
Notes
Percentiles computed using survey-weighted analysis accounting for NHANES complex sampling design.
